Class Descriptions
Our classes are limited to 12 students to assure individual attention, alignment adjustments and integration of your body, mind and spirit.
Anusara Yoga According to Yoga Journal, Anusara Yoga is sweeping the nation because it integrates the science of biomechanical alignment, the art of inner body awareness and the celebration of the heart. The Anusara Yoga Teacher Certification is one of the most thorough and challenging yoga certifications to achieve and generally requires 5-10 years of Anusara Yoga study with John Friend, Anusara Yoga founder, and other Anusara Certified Instructors. Our studies with John have included the full realm of yogic practices with a focus on the Tantric philosophy of auspicious goodness, asana alignment, biomechanics, modification with use of props, postural sequencing and therapeutics. Yoga 1 Basics This class is for everyone new to the style of Anusara Yoga, experienced yogi or beginner. If you are new you will get the best possible foundation and if you have taken other styles of yoga you will learn the Anusara Yoga method which will enhance your practice on all levels. The poses may be familiar but you will experience them in a completely expanded, refreshed and powerful way. If you have had prior experience but have developed counterproductive habits these will also be addressed. You will be infinitely rewarded on all levels with this course where you will learn the powerful Anusara Yoga Universal Principals of Alignment that this very therapeutic style brings to yoga and to your life. You will learn these Principles which create tremendous core strength and which support and protect you in every yoga pose you will ever do as well as in your daily movement. You will also learn how to adapt many aspects of yoga to your own body and lifestyle so you can take yoga off the mat and into your life. In this progressive learning course we cover warm-ups, The Anusara Yoga Universal Principles of Alignment applied to yoga poses and breath awareness. Due to the progressive nature of this course with one week building upon the other, there are no drop ins. This class series is required to move into Yoga 2 so that you will have the same foundation and knowledge as those in Yoga 2. If it is mid-session and you have yoga experience you may attend Yoga 2 classes until the next Yoga 1 Anusara foundation class begins. click to register
Yoga 2 Everyone in Yoga 2 has learned the Anusara Yoga Universal Principles of Alignmen in the Yoga 1 Basics course. In this way everyone is on the same page and we can take you deeper and further into your practice with integrity towards your safety and yoga development. After having learned the Anusara Yoga Universal Principles of Alignment, you start to fine tune the poses with them, learn more poses, and increase the length of time in the poses to build up strength, endurance and knowledge. Each six week session offers a different topic of study and each week a different theme is woven into the classes. Every class offers an expansive and varied sequence of poses which give different physical and psychological benefits. You may register for the entire six week session at a discounted package rate or drop in to a class anytime if you have completed the Yoga 1 Basics Course. click to register
Yoga 3 These classes are for those who have a solid foundation of the basic poses with the application of the Anusara Yoga Universal Principles Of Alignment and have had six months of Anusara Yoga practice and or a teachers recommendation. There are over 250 poses in the Anusara Yoga syllabus and we explore many of them at this level. Each six week session offers a different topic of yogic study and each week a different theme is woven into the classes. Private Yoga Sessions These sessions give you the opportunity to work one on one with the instructor addressing your individual wants and needs for your practice. In this time you can receive instructions geared specifically to your body, adjustments, variations and special attention to any chronic injuries or circumstances. Friday Night Community Classes By Donation These classes, taught by Sri Ekan, offer a different Yoga Sutra each time as a theme integrated and imbibed through philosophy, asana, pranayama, & meditation. This class is perfect for new people and regular students who want to go deeper into the timeless and life transforming philosophy of yoga and meditation. Please check the schedule for upcoming class dates.
Make-ups Students are allowed and encouraged to make up all missed classes! Missed classes can be made up only during the current session in any class at the same level or lower. Missed classes cannot be carried over to a future session.
Drop-In Classes If you are an experienced yoga student you may do drop-in classes in Yoga 2 until the next 6 week session when you can take the Yoga 1 Basics to learn the Anusara Yoga Universal Principles of Alignmnent.
